INEF2019
The INEF 2019 conference was held at the 21 acre East-West Center on the campus of the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii between June 10-12th, 2019. The conference included state of the art presentations on isotopic forensics, contaminant fate and transport, analytical techniques and persistent organic pollutants. Forensic techniques for investigating and assessing a variety of contaminants were presented, including petroleum hydrocarbons, wastewater contaminants and metals in soil, groundwater, air and wastewater. Panel presentations and workshops included emerging issues regarding PFAS, the forensic analysis of antibiotics in complex environments and the use of multivariate methods for contaminant source apportionment in comingled groundwater plumes. Keynote presentation topics included a Canadian perspective in the use of scientific experts in environment litigation and integrated approached to environmental forensics.
INEF hosted a reception and evening at the world-renown Bishop Museum which contains the largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific cultural artifacts and natural history specimens in the world. The evening included a planetarium presentation on the Hawaiian skies, a guided gallery tour of the museum and a presentation of the museum’s native and non-native Hawaiian land snails Dr. Norine Young in the Malacology Research at the Bishop Museum and Dr. Ken Hayes, the Director of the Pacific Center for Molecular Biodiversity at the museum. The evening concluded with a student award celebration.
